Chief Medical Officer
Mark S. DeFrancesco, M.D. is one of the founders and serves on the Board of Directors of Physicians for Women's Health, LLC, formed in 1997. In addition to being the Vice-President of PWH, he also serves on the Board of Women's Health Connecticut. He has been practicing medicine for over 20 years and is the head of his local practice in Waterbury, CT.
As Chief Medical Officer of Women's Health Connecticut, Dr. DeFrancesco is involved with developing new clinical and quality management programs, credentialing of physicians, helping with clinical research activities, interacting with managed care organizations on clinical issues, and generally facilitating communications between our physicians and our management.
Dr. DeFrancesco is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and served as the Chair of ACOG's District I from 2006 - 2009. In addition, he is the past Chair of ACOG's national Practice Management Committee and also was the first Chair of ACOG's Committee on Ambulatory Practice Operations.
He received his undergraduate education at Yale University and is a graduate of University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Connecticut Health Center and New Britain General Hospital. Dr. DeFrancesco has also received his Masters in Business Administration from the University of New Haven.
Dr. DeFrancesco is also the past President of the Connecticut Society of American Board Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. From 1987 through 1995 he served as the Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, and has been a surveyor for the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care since 1994, serving on the AAAHC Board of Directors since 2000. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of AAAHC's Institute for Quality Improvement. He has also been a member of the Council of the New England Ob-Gyn Society since 1995, and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Connecticut Health Center School of Medicine.
