Typically “Ob Gyn” brings to mind health care that focuses specifically on women’s sexual health, pregnancy and having babies. While that is primarily the case, at Shoreline OB GYN in New London, Dr. Jonathan Levine is passionate about keeping women healthy on an even more fundamental level.

Originally from West Hartford, CT, Dr. Levine wanted to be an electrical engineer when he grew up. Intrigued by radio and electronics he has been an amateur radio operator since age 12 but a stronger signal caught his attention when it came to medicine. It was the combination of surgical specialties, primary care and the special physician-patient bond that influenced his decision to become an Ob Gyn.

After years in a solo practice, Dr. Levine knew that long term relationships he had developed with patients was what he treasured most about what he did. He also realized that through expansion he could provide patients with a higher quality of care. In 1995 he joined Stanley Solinsky, M.D. and Francis Mayeda, M.D. of Shoreline OB GYN and now ultimately is a valued physician affiliate of Women’s Health Connecticut.

Over the past six years, Dr. Levine has continued to focus on providing a higher standard of obstetric and gynecologic care to his patients by combining science and compassion. He completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine in 2006-2007 and became a Diplomat of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine in 2011. “The key to health and wellness is nutrition” says Dr. Levine, “our gut is the largest immune organ [in our body] and has the highest amount of serotonin.” He shares that stomach health and nutrition play an indirect roll with many of the disease processes he has seen in Ob Gyn care and that is why he incorporates nutrition, herbal medicine, and mind-body medicine into the women’s health care he provides.
